A Quiet Peace…….

This photo was taken at New Smyrna Beach Florida on April 12th just before 6am. There is something special about standing alone on an empty beach as you watch the rising sun unfold before your eyes. There is a sense of quiet peace that really can not be put into words. All that stands between you and the rest of the world is this vast ocean. The smell of the salt air gets absorbed into your soul. The sea is a gateway that connects all the far away lands and all that they have to offer. Watching the sun blossom into the light of the day puts into perspective how small we really are and how much of this world there is to see and explore. The world is my book, the photos are my pages and the camera is my pen.

……not sure if I heard that last line somewhere or I came up with it myself - after all it was early - either way it works……..

Thoughts

It seems that when I have to write something kind of important I have a hard time getting it on paper. I have been trying to write the “about” page for over 3 years now, but more than an about page I feel its more appropriate to try to give you my thoughts about why I take photos. I have never been one that finds it very easy to write about myself and maybe that’s a good blog post for the future. My thoughts…. why I take photographs…. to craft a story, to call forth emotions and extract feelings, to create or bring back a memory, that’s why I take photos. I lean towards nautical themes but whatever I see that can tell an interesting story will do. Just like the music I am listening to as I write this, taking photographs evokes a calmness inside that allows creativity to reach its zenith. Some people paint or draw, create music, or turn clay into pottery, work with wood or make crafts of all kinds of shapes and sizes. Some do it as hobbies and some as a profession. First and foremost, I take photographs because I get a huge amount of enjoyment, fulfillment, and satisfaction from the time I am behind the camera but most of all I find taking photos relaxing and it simply makes me happy, the outside world seems to melt away. I take photos of things and places that I enjoy and that is generally of a nautical theme and a bit of nature. This website is my home to share my memories with you and I hope that they bring you many happy feelings and emotions as I have had in creating them. At its core, a photo is nothing more than a single visual story, a frame, I want to tell you my story with a photograph. We all have some kind of story to tell, the question is how are you going to tell it. My goal is to take a photo that brings you back to a time, a memory, a feeling, a good time in your life. My hope is that you see one of my photographs and it awakens something inside of you. They say it is not about the destinations but it's about the journey. The same holds true for photography. It is not about just snapping the shutter, it is about the process of searching out locations and knowing a bit about the weather and the journey to that location, the smell of the air, the wind, the earth below you, the vastness of the view in front of you, then finding a good composition and the setting up of the tripod, choosing what lens and f-stop will give you your desired results, and finally, the taking of the picture, bringing them back and the process of editing them to give you the sensation of being in the photo. I do edit my photos as its all part of the process to share all the feelings and emotions of a photo. Not only do I want you to see but more importantly I want you to feel the photograph. I hope my photos help you keep your story alive. Finally, I want to say thank you so very much for taking the time not only to read this but also for browsing my photographs. I hope that in the coming months and years I can share much more with you.

Peace and Cheers
